This webinar presentation is designed to introduce the recipient brokers to the operational side of the inland marine trucking and cargo claim process, to see the claim response and some of the challenges experienced throughout.

What will be covered?

  • Provincial Legislation regarding Conditions of Carriage and required/expected documentation for cargo carriage regarding Bill of Ladings and liability so imposed.
  • Recommendations for coverage limits review.
  • Claim response protocols and the need for expediting release of claim support materials.
  • USA point of origin shipments into Canada.
  • Risk Control measures: Dash Cameras, GPS Tracking devices.
  • Proper documentation and control of shipping documents, from the signed Load Confirmation to the creation of the carrier’s own Bill of Lading and sign-off by both the shipper and receiver.
  • Client education on logistics efficiency and control of cargo from origin through to delivery.

Instructors

Paul Curtis

Paul has over 30 years in the Insurance industry and has adjusted numerous large residential and commercial losses, including: Course of Construction Builder’s Risk, CGL and Wrap-Up liability, conducting investigations, Supreme and Small Claims court action response and defense preparations. Paul’s experience covers the construction, agricultural, livestock, crop loss, hazardous material, environmental, forestry, mining, heavy equipment, and renewable energy claims.

Based in Abbotsford, BC, Paul is considered a specialist within the Inland Marine claims market. As a former RCMP officer and ICBC SIU Fraud Investigator, Paul is trained in Scene & Accident Investigation, Statement & Interrogation, Hazmat Awareness & Operations, and is certified in theft, accident, fire arson investigation. Paul’s experience supports a strong investigative led approach to claims, adding extensive value to recovery and subrogation efforts.

Wayne Dubeau

Wayne has been in the trucking and safety industries for over 40 years, and his background entails Class 1 driving, Class 1 instructing, and cross-border documentation for trucking of goods. In addition, Wayne has delivered training in oilfield driving along with various industry safety courses (Dangerous Goods, WHMIS, PDIC, LCV, Load Securement, etc.) with over 20 years in that field. During his time in the safety sector, Wayne also provided Expert Witness Services on numerous files, including: rollovers, securing loads, accident scene management, root cause, cargo salvage and recovery; plus expert auditing for trucking driving institutes.

Wayne transitioned to handling insurance claims in 2017, adjusting transportation and equipment files across British Columbia. His insurance experience expanded from claims, pioneering the long combination vehicle program within the Commercial vehicle industry, along with e-log introduction for rollover prevention. Since 2022, Wayne has worked at SteegeXP handling large and complex truck cargo, inland marine and equipment losses, based out of Mission, BC.
