Professional Young Insurance Broker of the Year | Nomination Form

This award recognizes the young insurance broker who has the highest potential for superior leadership, has demonstrated initiative and excellence in insurance growth, and has gained positive recognition from peers and industry professionals.

Underwriter of the Year | Nomination Form

This award recognizes the underwriter whose expertise and outstanding service to brokers has helped ensure proper coverage is placed efficiently and effectively for their clients.

Business Development Manager of the Year | Nomination Form

This award recognizes the individual BDM within the insurance space who is pushing the envelope in business development, client service and education, and has demonstrated commitment to brokers and developing knowledge of markets.

Barry Haggis is a third generation insurance broker and President of Young & Haggis Insurance Services. Born and raised in Calgary, and growing up around the insurance industry, he still took a winding road to get to where he is today. From University football, to a career as an actor in Vancouver BC, and now running an independent insurance brokerage for the past 13 years, and obtaining his CIP designation, he brings a unique perspective into leadership in everything he does. Barry is also a past President of the Professional Young Insurance Brokers and the Insurance Brokers Association of Alberta.

Roger Marcelo

Roger Marcelo has called the insurance industry home for 30 years, and has held a variety of impactful management roles. Before joining Allianz Global Assistance as Vice President of Business Development, he was a Sales Director – Business Development at Intact Financial Corporation/ RSA Insurance.

Roger is a seasoned business development executive with vast experience in positively managing relationships with brokers. He is an enthusiastic leader who has a clear passion for building relationships and talent within the industry, which has included teaching CIP classes for over five years with the Insurance Institute of Southern Alberta. In 2019, he was recognized by the IISA as Instructor of the Year.

Leading an equally passionate national team, Roger likes nothing more than to work closely with our broker partners across Canada.

When he’s not supporting brokers, Roger likes to spend time with his sons, running, and working out at the gym. He can also be found on the links, dancing, and doing some karaoke. Roger plans to do even more travelling in the next few years, especially to places where there are nearby golf courses…

Trauma, Grow-ops, Fentanyl and Meth Lab Clean Up… Not For the Faint of Heart!

Over the years the increase of incidences involving active shooters, gang warfare and other illegal activities have meant a proliferation of grow-ops and meth labs. This has had an impact both on insurance carriers and restoration contractors. It has created the need for these industries to become familiar with what they may be facing when they become involved in these types of claims.

Art Johnson started in the Restoration industry in 1988. He went from a 2-person company to assisting in the growth of one of western Canada’s largest full-service restoration companies. Art has extensive training and experience in all aspects of the restoration industry and is passionate about training and helping others. Art is a Water Loss Specialist (WLS), a Contents Loss Specialist (CLS) a Certified Restorer (CR), an IICRC Master Restorer and Cleaner and an IICRC approved Certification Instructor. He has taught extensively throughout Canada, the USA and Australia. Art has proudly served on, and, for a time, chaired the Water Loss Institute, co-chaired the Restoration Council, along with serving as the Environmental Chair for the RIA
