The CAIB program is a nationally recognized professional designation and licensing equivalency that provides in-depth knowledge and understanding of all aspects of property and casualty insurance. Many students prefer to opt for their CAIB designation rather than a traditional licensing path due to the higher success rate, national recognition, and the deeper level of general insurance knowledge provided by the program.
- Apply your technical knowledge to practical situations
- Enhance your business competency
- Develop your marketing skills
- Strengthen your professional skills and ability
- Maximize your potential for management positions
- Earn your designation by taking all four courses, or take individual courses to sharpen your skills in a particular area

Important!
The CAIB program has been completely rebuilt from the ground up. If you are a new CAIB student, you can continue to scroll down to enroll into the newly revamped CAIB. If you are a returning student, please and familiarize yourself with how this change will impact you.
Upon launching the revamped CAIB program in January 2026, we will be immediately ceasing the sale of all 2013 CAIB modules with minor exceptions:
- Exams - The old exam will remain available for purchase to those who have previously purchased and studied using the older material until February 15, 2026. The exam MUST be written prior to December 31st, 2026. Failing to complete and pass the older exam within this time-frame will mean that you will need to re-enroll from scratch within the new program.
- CAIB 2/3 - The content within CAIB 2 and 3 has been reorganized. What this means is that if you have previously completed the CAIB 2 or 3 exam, but not the other, you will be required to complete the older version of the incomplete module. Failing to complete both CAIB 2/3 by Dec 31, 2026 will require you to retake both within the new program.
Starting on February 15th, this content will no longer be available for direct purchase. To purchase 2013 format exams after February 15th please contact education@ibaa.ca. These requests will be addressed on a case-by-case basis.
To better understand the CAIB 2/3 situation please refer to this graph:

Instructor-led Courses
The IBAA will periodically offer live courses presented through Zoom, in-person, or a hybrid of the two. The list of upcoming courses regularly updates with new courses, to see an extensive list, please refer to our Event Calendar.
Enrollment in any live CAIB course will include the purchase of all study material, and the Exam itself. If you have previously purchased the CAIB study material for the purposes of Self-Study (only CAIB New Edition textbooks are valid), and would like to enroll into an upcoming course without incurring the full price again, please contact our Education Team.
All purchases of the CAIB New Edition content are final sale. In the event that a course is cancelled due to low enrollment, you will be given the option of transferring your purchase to an upcoming course, or receive a refund for the difference in price between Self-Study and your chosen course.

Self-Directed Study
With the content revamp, we are also changing how it is purchased. Each purchase of the CAIB study material will include access to the full text, the full digital tool which includes a multitude of practice questions, as well as enrollment into the Exam. No more purchasing everything separately.
All purchases of the self-directed content are final sale.
Exams
Exams will not be immediately available at the launch of the CAIB New Edition. We are aiming to launch the exams in February, 2026 but an exact date has not been determined. Please keep an eye on this page for updates.
Exams are now paid for, and enrolled in at the time of purchase of either the Self-Directed option, or with enrollment into an instructor-led course. All exams are proctored using a virtual tool, so no need to work around a second person's schedule, just book the date and time when you're ready through the same platform you will use to access the digital course assets.
Licensing Equivalencies
With the updated CAIB, licensing equivalencies remain unchanged. The Alberta Insurance Council (AIC) recognizes the CAIB program as containing equivalent education to that of their general insurance licensing exams. The AIC accepts a passing grade from the following combined CAIB modules as equivalent to their licensing exams:
- CAIB 1 & 2 = Level 1
- CAIB 1, 2, & 3 = Level 2
- CAIB 1, 2, 3, & 4 = Level 3
During the application process you will be required to provide your CAIB transcript proving successful completion to the AIC. Your transcript can be found on your profile alongside your CE Certificates. Having a license does not count toward completion of the CAIB.
Bursary Program
The Insurance Brokers Association of Alberta (IBAA) is proud to offer a CAIB Bursary Program. This initiative is designed to support new entrants to the insurance industry by providing opportunities for career advancement and professional growth through the Canadian Accredited Insurance Broker (CAIB) program.

CAIB 2013 (Previous Version)
The older CAIB content is still accessible exclusively to those who either need to complete an older CAIB exam, or those who need to complete modules 2 or 3. There are some important dates to recognize with this:
- February 15, 2026 - Cutoff for new purchases of all CAIB 2013 content through our website
- Starting on February 16th, we will no longer allow direct purchases of any CAIB 2013 material or exams through our website. If you need to complete or retake an older exam, or prep for the CAIB 2 or 3, you will need to reach out to our Education Team. All requests will be addressed on a case-by-case basis.
- December 31, 2026 - Cutoff for all CAIB 2013 exams
- December 31, 2026 will be the absolute final day any CAIB 2013 exams can be written. This means if you do not complete, or do not pass your exam using the older content prior to this date, you will be required to retake the whole module using the updated content. We strongly recommend booking any attempts with enough time to factor in potential retakes. Keep in mind marking, and processing of completed exams can take up to 1 month.

As such, only the CAIB 2 and 3 textbooks and study guides will remain available for purchase, and they should only be purchased by those who still need to take either exam. This option does not require you to pick a date right away as Meazure will contact you to book the exam.

Physical Proctor Option
We recognize that some students prefer an in-person proctor. To secure a physical proctor you need to source them yourself and they must meet the requirements set out on the proctor nomination form.
