Leading Through Care-First

This module is designed for brokerage principals, directors, managers, team leads and supervisors who are responsible for preparing their staff and operations for Alberta Care-First. It focuses on the practical management challenge of getting brokers trained and ready while maintaining day-to-day client service. Topics include training scheduling, staff engagement, completion tracking, protected learning time, post-training coaching, business continuity, BMS documentation, E&O controls, insurer coordination and ongoing quality assurance. The objective is to help managers build a repeatable and auditable readiness process rather than simply sending staff to training.

Care-First Broker Service Scenarios

This module is focused on how front-line brokers can handle everyday Care-First client conversations in a consistent, professional and needs-based manner. Using practical service scenarios, brokers work through common questions about price, coverage changes, income replacement, vehicle use, liability limits, renewals and changing client circumstances. The emphasis is on asking the right questions, explaining what is known without overpromising, reviewing coverage where appropriate, staying within the broker’s professional role and documenting the client’s decision. The scenarios are intended to help brokers demonstrate value through advice and service rather than focusing solely on price.

Care-First Broker E&O Scenarios

This module concentrates on the E&O exposures that may increase as brokers explain and implement the new Care-First system. Scenario-based learning is used to examine issues such as inaccurate explanations of benefits, failure to identify income-replacement gaps, weak fact-finding, missed vehicle-use changes, inadequate documentation, improper coverage reductions, outdated information, client complaints and advice outside the broker’s expertise. The recurring discipline is to confirm what is known, clearly identify uncertainty, avoid guarantees, stay within the broker role, document the conversation and escalate when appropriate. The objective is not simply to teach E&O theory, but to show brokers how everyday conversations and file practices can either prevent or create an E&O problem.

Care-First Broker Claims Discussion Scenarios

This module uses realistic accident and injury scenarios to prepare brokers for the types of claim-related conversations they may receive after Care-First is implemented. The scenarios range from relatively straightforward injuries to more complex situations involving serious injury, income loss, pedestrians, fatalities, disputed treatment, business use, minors and other unusual circumstances. The focus is on helping brokers recognize the issue, explain the general Care-First process, use careful client-safe language, document information accurately and know when a matter should be escalated—without becoming the claims adjuster, medical expert or legal adviser. The scenarios are intended to build broker confidence in discussing claims while maintaining clear professional boundaries.
