This instructor-led webinar provides a practical exploration of human element programs and their role in managing risk within organizations. Participants will gain insight into how human behavior, decision-making, and organizational dynamics shape risk outcomes.
The session will define the “human element” and examine why structured programs are critical to reducing the likelihood and severity of loss. Through relatable case examples, it will illustrate how breakdowns in processes, accountability, and oversight often drive incidents, rather than equipment failure alone. The webinar will also examine how organizations can proactively manage these risks through effective training, strong operational culture, and targeted interventions.
Topics covered:
At the end of the session, partcipants will be able to:
- Defining the human element and its role in loss prevention
- How human factors contribute to real-world losses (case examples)
- Core human element programs, including:
- Preventative maintenance
- Hot work management
- Housekeeping
- Smoking controls
- Fire protection inspection, testing, and maintenance
- Contractor management
- Business continuity planning
- Evaluating program effectiveness using alignment and execution frameworks
- Practical strategies to strengthen controls and reduce loss exposure
At the end of the session, attendees will be equipped with practical strategies to identify human-driven risk exposures, assess program effectiveness, and strengthen controls to reduce losses. Brokers will leave with greater confidence in discussing operational risk drivers with customers and recommending proactive risk management solutions that support long-term resilience.
A strong understanding of human element programs enables Brokers to better support their clients in establishing and maintaining effective risk management practices. Because risks tied to human behavior are present in every operation, Brokers play a critical role in helping commercial customers recognize exposures and address them proactively.
The knowledge gained from this session allows Brokers to provide more informed guidance on coverage, support clients in implementing and maintaining structured programs, and reinforce the importance of ongoing review and improvement. By taking a proactive approach, Brokers can help business owners strengthen their operations and significantly reduce their exposure to loss.
